I'm going all-in

Hello and welcome to 2024!

I wish you all the best for the new year, and I hope you’ve had a wonderful time off together with your family & friends.

I’ve spent the holidays alternating between relaxing by the fireplace and thinking about what happened last year. Because it’s been quite the ride.

You see… this newsletter started as an idea in the summer of 2022. I’d get a great project management question from a client, spend hours figuring it out, and answer it 1:1.

So when a friend asked me why I didn’t share it with the world, I had one of those facepalm moments.

Writing out my answers and sharing them in public would force me to organize my thinking even further, and maybe it’d help someone else along the way…

Fast forward to 2024, and I can safely say that this idea escalated nicely.

Today, over 12,000 people read this newsletter every Tuesday, and there’s no sign of that growth slowing down.

So as I started planning 2024 a few weeks ago, I asked myself… “what would they want?”.

The tricky part is this…

Email is one-way traffic. Sometimes I get 10 replies, other times 30. But that’s about all the feedback I get.

So rather than imagining what you and others think, I interviewed a group of 20+ readers, course students, and consulting clients.

The first few conversations felt random. Everyone had their own story, their background, their context, their challenges, and their desires. But soon enough, patterns started emerging.

Patterns of experienced project managers looking for more.

Not more academic theory, but more practical knowledge, more community, and more answers.

A place where existing theory and ideas meet real-world application. To make sure you never miss an important step in your project or spend a few days solving a problem that has been solved before.

And if I add all of those up, I can only draw one conclusion:

I’m going all-in.

Last year, I spent about 80% of my time consulting and 20% on research, content, teaching, and community.

But for 2024, I’m flipping the script.

It’s a big bet. But it feels like an asymmetric one. Limited downside, but a huge potential upside. And there are few things I love more than playing games where the odds are stacked in my favor.

So, for 2024, you can expect to see a lot of change.

Not necessarily more volume, but faster and better execution.

Because just like in your project, you rarely need more resources. You need more focus. And focus is exactly what I’m doing here.

I’ll be spending the next few days planning out what this looks like in practice.

Filling in some details, planning big goals, and turning them into small steps.

It will be a big project for me and my business, but one I’m incredibly excited about. I’ll pull back the curtains and share some of my plans with you soon.

And before you ask… nope. This newsletter is not going anywhere. If anything, you can expect it to become an even more valuable resource this year.

I’m excited for 2024, and thrilled to have you along for the ride.
